Typically, the quintessential feminine side of Margaux is represented by Prieure-Lichine-s 2011. Floral, raspberry, black cherry and currant notes intermixed with spice box are present in this deep ruby/purple-colored effort. The richness builds incrementally and becomes more impressive than it initially seems. A well-made, supple-textured, delicious 2011, it is an undeniable success for the vintage. One of the most successful wines in the Moulis-Listrac appellations, Poujeaux (owned by the Cuvelier family, also the proprietors of the impressive St.-Emilion estate of Clos Fourtet) has turned out a surprisingly good wine in 2011. Its dark ruby color is followed by sweet plum, black cherry and currant fruit, no herbaceousness, a medium-bodied, elegant mouthfeel, and noteworthy purity. Drink this tasty, mid-weight Moulis over the next 5-6 years. (Robert M. Parker, Jr.)

The 2013 LaGrange exhibits an attractive deep ruby color as well as less oak than is normally found during the first year of tasting. It offers supple tannins, excellent texture and good purity. This successful, medium-bodied 2013 should drink well for 8-10 years. (Robert M. Parker, Jr.)

The 2014 La Lagune is a wine that showed extremely well when I tasted it from barrel. Now in bottle, it has a very well defined, quite intense bouquet with blackberry, cedar and pencil box aromas—classic in style, demonstrating impressive breeding. The palate is very well balanced with fine tannin, bright and vivacious black fruit laced with graphite, fine mineralité and it fans out wonderfully on the Pauillac-like finish. You know, I suspect this might even surpass the 2015 La Lagune... let's see. This is excellent. (Neal Martin)

Earthy and tannic, but concentrated with firm structure, the 2012 La Dame de Montrose has a distinct spicy, earthy character and some tannins to shed, which is unusual for a second wine. It is nicely concentrated with a dense ruby/purple color, and overall it is well-made. Give it several years of bottle age and drink it over the following 15 or more years, as this will be an uncommonly long-lived second wine from this famous Médoc château. (Robert M. Parker, Jr.)

The 2016 La Dame de Montrose is deep garnet-purple colored and gives up cassis, earth, tilled soil, truffles and chocolate-covered cherries on the nose. Medium-bodied, the palate is firm, elegant and restrained with a mineral finish. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)

Proprietor Claire Villers-Lurton administers this Pauillac classified-growth property. The 2012 reveals good, sweet tannin, blackcurrant fruit, a nice, soft underbelly, medium to full body, and outstanding concentration and purity. This property is always somewhat under the radar, but this is a very strong effort and should drink well for up to 20 years. (Robert M. Parker, Jr.)

Tasting Notes :
The 2014 Clos du Marquis, a blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, has kept that soupçon of opulence that I observed when this was in barrel; it has layers of blackberry, raspberry coulis, incense and iris emerging from the glass whilst maintaining superb delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry. Graphite-infused red and black fruit on the front palate whilst the back is adorned with just a hint of blue fruit that lends this a more feminine allure. There is lovely balance here, fresh and focused with a touch of graphite borrowed from over the border in Pauillac. This is an excellent Clos du Marquis that will give 20 years of pleasure. The 2015 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron is medium to deep garnet-purple in color with a nose of black currants, black cherries and mulberries with earth, tar and meat suggestions. The medium-bodied palate is firm with a muscular core of earth and herbs-accented fruit and a long finish. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)

Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Baron de Brane gives up cassis, tobacco, leather and spices on the nose, with a baked plums undercurrent. Medium to full-bodied, it has a chewy texture and plenty of freshness, finishing a little clipped and rustic. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)

The 2014 Fleur Cardinale is located in Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse, the vines populating the lieu-dit of Thibaud. it has a powerful, rich and decadent bouquet bestowed with licorice and boysenberry jam. The palate is medium-bodied with muscular tannin, good depth, fine acidity with a structured and quite spicy finish that replicates the showing from barrel. Enjoy this over the next 8-10 years. The Les Griffons de Pichon Baron 2014 comes from terroir that is close to the Grand Vin in style, composed of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot that is aged in 60% new oak. It has a pretty "bud" of a nose: violets and cassis infused with cedar, nicely defined and actually quite sensual. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin and purity. This is clearly superior to their alternative second wine, Les Tourelles. This is well worth seeking out as it should represent good value. (Neal Martin)

The 2016 Ferriere is an accomplished Margaux for the vintage. It has a feminine, refined bouquet with blackberry, wild strawberry and light rose petal aromas, just a hint of vanilla from the new oak that is neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, quite juicy tannin. This is very harmonious with fine tannin, impressive depth and a sense of mineralité that is in tune with this vintage. I thought that the 2015 Ferriere was excellent, but this is another step up. Bravo, Clare Villars Lurton! (Neal Martin)

Tasting Notes :
The 2014 Lalande-Borie is one of those wines you want to give a gentle kick up the backside. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with this Saint Julien, but it seems to be coasting, not putting in the effort to please you or I. It offers light leafy, brambly red berry fruit on the nose, nicely defined but missing a little intensity. Likewise the palate is balanced and quite elegant, yet I was seeking more body and greater sense of energy on the finish. As such, I would be drinking this over the next seven or eight years, no longer. (Neal Martin)
